If you like it Hot, You’ll Love Lake Mead in Las Vegas, Nevada - a travel review by Rachael Gerkensmeyer
Lake Mead, Las Vegas, Nevada
Lake Mead in Las Vegas, Nevada
Lake Mead is a huge desert with some water in the middle. It’s unbelievable how dead everything looks when you’re driving through this huge desert park. Despite the fact there is nothing but brown dirt and cactus trees around, there are a lot of treasure to be found here.

My husband my brother and I, decided to visit Lake Mead to do some fishing. We decided to get our fishing licenses at the park and that was pretty painless. You have to fill out a little form, pay some cash and you’re on your way. With a map of the park and our trunk full of fishing gear, we were ready to have some fun.

Lake Mead is ridiculously large. The map points you to every spot in the park that offers amenities, whether it is a fishing hole, a store, a restaurant, or a swimming hole. We chose a fishing spot that had a store near it and drove the 15 miles to get there.

Once we got there, we realized we had a steep walk down the cliff to actually get to the water. So, we grabbed our cooler out of the trunk along with our fishing poles and headed down. The only thing we got after sitting there for over two hours was a sunburn from the toxic rays hitting us the whole time. We didn’t score one fish. It was a bummer but we did have some fun.

As we were driving out of the park I noticed a lot of signs along the way indicating hot springs were just a hike away. At one point, I made the guys pull over to see just how easy it was to get to these hot springs.

I got out of the car and walked up to the sign to discover that the closest hot springs to this point was a 6 mile hike. Well, we just weren’t up to the walk this time. We were ready to get home and grill some hot dogs since we left the anticipated fish at the lake.
