A Great Family Vacation: Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri - a travel review by Mary Alward
Step back in time with the entire family at Silver Dollar City Theme Park in Branson, Missouri. It’s one of the most popular attractions in the area. Enter the park and find that you’ve stepped into a past era – back into the 1800’s and a simpler time.

Festivals

There are many family festivals that take place in Silver Dollar City throughout the year. Be sure and check to see what is happening while you’re visiting. You wouldn’t want to miss these great events. Kids’ Fest is one of the best if you’re traveling with children. It takes place between June 1st and August 21st.

 A Roller Caster Ride

There are lots of rides for the kids and they will especially enjoy the latest roller coaster ride, PowderKeg. It hits fifty three miles per hour in three seconds and travels back in time. Kids must be forty two inches to ride the PowderKeg.

From Mad Science to athletic and dog shows, to parades, kids will love this special event that is put on especially for them.

Shops

There are hundreds of shops to visit in Silver Dollar City and they’re all dedicated to preserving the arts and crafts of early American artisans, by demonstrating skills and tools that have long since been forgotten. You can buy western gear, modern clothing, jams and jellies, John Deere collectibles and more. Prices are reasonable and you will want to take home a wide variety of tasty treats from the past. Brown’s candy factory has a wide assortment of candy from yesteryear and there is an entire section of sugar free confections.

Candles, quilts and all things from America’s past can be found in the shops at Silver Dollar City. These unique shops will be the hit of the day for those who enjoy browsing through shops and be sure to visit the General Store – an exact replica of those that stood on Main Street in many small American western towns.

Demonstrations

Your grandmother may not have made soap, but her grandmother probably did. Watch live demonstrations of soap making and take home a few bars. This soap is 100% pure. It’s the perfect thing to bring back zing to your complexion. Granny’s Lye Soap is an educational and fun activity.

Kids will love Silver Pick Rock Shop where they can sift through bins of rocks to find their favorite polished stone. Kids are little rock hounds and will love this activity.

Christmas

If you are in Branson near Christmas, visit Silver Dollar City Theme Park’s Christmas Hollow. Although Christmas is celebrated every day of the year here, Christmas is a very special time. You will love browsing the large amount of Christmas décor that includes Santas, snowmen, as well as every other Christmas theme you can think of. The shop is beautiful and the staff is friendly and willing to help you in any way they can. The fifty decorated trees are spectacular. The sights, sounds and fragrances of Christmas Hollow will amaze you.

Shows

There are over forty live shows put on daily at Silver Dollar City Theme Park. Tap your toe to musical shows, laugh at comedies or listen to bluegrass, Cajun, gospel or country. Whatever you like, Silver Dollar City has it.

Visit the authentic saddlebag log cabin at McHaffie’s Homestead where you can sit on a feather bed, enjoy the aroma of corn bread cooking on the wood stove or rock by the fire and chat with the McHaffie family. Kids will love visiting the animals at the Homestead and watching the family’s mule power the corn grinder.

These are only a few of the hundreds of sights, sounds and fragrances at Silver Dollar City Theme Park. For an exciting, fun and educational vacation, be sure to add it to your destination list.
